Lee-Daeseob

Lee Daeseob is a Deaf photographer whose lens speaks of quiet observation, human connection, and the stillness within everyday life. Formerly the director of the Seodaemun Welfare Center for the Deaf in Seoul, he has long worked at the intersection of disability advocacy and visual expression.

His photographs—many of which have been awarded in national photo contests—are marked by subtle detail and calm composition, often capturing overlooked scenes in natural or urban landscapes. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and continues to explore photography not only as art, but also as a tool for community-building.

As the planner and instructor behind Deaf photography workshops, Lee has played a key role in cultivating creative spaces for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to express themselves through the camera. He remains an active figure in both the artistic and Deaf communities.

이대섭 작가는 청각장애를 지닌 사진작가로, 한때 서울시서대문농아인복지관 관장을 역임하며 농문화와 예술을 잇는 활동을 꾸준히 펼쳐왔습니다. 사진을 통해 조용히 세상과 교감해온 그는, 국내 사진공모전에서 다수 입상하였고, 여러 단체전에 참여하며 사진작가로서의 입지를 다져왔습니다.

그의 사진은 평범한 일상 속의 정적인 장면, 혹은 자연과 도시가 맞닿는 풍경을 절제된 시선으로 담아내며, 소리 없는 관찰자의 감각이 고스란히 스며 있습니다.
또한 ‘농인 사진교실’을 기획·운영하여, 농인들이 사진을 통해 자신을 표현할 수 있는 기회를 만들어온 실천적 예술가이기도 합니다.
