Bang-Dooyung is a pivotal figure in Korean contemporary painting whose work captures the deep emotional current of Han—the uniquely Korean sentiment of unresolved sorrow and resilience. Since his official debut in 1981 at the Asia Invitational Exhibition held at the Sejong Center, he has presented 16 solo exhibitions and participated in over 400 group and special exhibitions both in Korea and internationally.
His paintings gradually evolved from representational forms to abstract compositions rooted in metaphysical themes. Blending silence, memory, and the cyclical nature of life and death, Bang translates landscapes into poetic reflections filled with quiet intensity and emotional nuance.
In 1995, he founded Korea’s first national association for disabled artists, forging a platform of solidarity and creative exchange. Beyond his own practice, Bang has actively fostered cultural dialogue, curating exhibitions and mentoring younger artists. His vision of art—as both a deeply personal language and a medium of collective healing—continues to influence contemporary Korean art.

방두영 화백은 자연과 인생의 깊은 서사를 화폭에 담아온 한국 현대미술의 중추적인 인물입니다. 1981년 세종문화회관에서 열린 아시아 6개국 초대전을 시작으로, 40여 년간 16회의 개인전과 400여 회의 국내외 전시에 참여하며 활동해왔습니다.
그의 작업은 한국인의 정서인 ‘한(恨)’을 바탕으로 삶과 죽음, 탄생과 소멸이라는 순환의 철학을 시적인 언어로 풀어냅니다. 형상을 지우고 색과 리듬으로 화면을 채우는 그의 회화는 고요하지만 깊은 울림을 남기며, 자연 속에서 얻은 통찰과 기억의 풍경들을 그만의 방식으로 정직하게 전달합 니다.
1995년에는 전국의 예술가들과 연대하며 예술 공동체를 위한 토대를 만들었고, 이후에도 전시 기획과 국제 교류 활동을 이어가며 국내외 미술계에 꾸준히 영향을 미치고 있습니다.
