Jeon Dongmin 전동민: Painting Cities That Breathe Light

Jeon Dongmin, trained in traditional Korean painting, offers a distinctly modern perspective through his glowing depictions of city nightscapes. As a resident artist at the Jamsil Creative Studio, his work explores the emotional duality of urban darkness and artificial light.
By combining fluorescent paint with phosphorescent materials, he captures ephemeral moments of illumination—transforming city buildings into luminous metaphors for human struggle and connection. His nightscapes are not just visual records, but emotional landscapes rendered in ink and light.
조선대학교 한국화 전공 출신의 전동민 작가는 서울문화재단 잠실창작스튜디오 입주작가로 활동하며 도시 야경을 주제로 작업해왔다. 어둠은 외로움과 방황의 상징이고, 도시의 불빛은 생명과 희망의 메타포로 다가온다.
형광 물감과 축광 도료를 혼합하여, 낮에는 밝고 환하고 밤에는 은은히 빛나는 레이어를 구성함으로써 시야에 따라 변화하는 감각을 유도한다. 그의 작품은 한국화의 전통을 이어가면서도 현대 도시의 감정을 담는 독자적인 회화 언어로 자리매김하고 있다.
