Oh Hyoseok 오효석 : Solo Exhibtion 2014

From July 8 to 27, 2017, Oh Hyoseok held his solo exhibition “Nature’s Sound” at the Michuhol Library Gallery in Incheon. As the only deaf painter in Incheon recognized with multiple national awards, Oh conveys the vitality of nature through soft and emotionally resonant landscapes.

Known for his peaceful and grounded paintings, Oh says, “It’s not that I can’t hear—it’s that I see more.” This perspective transforms his work into visual poems that quietly reflect the comfort and harmony found in nature. His paintings do not seek dramatic abstraction but instead invite warm, familiar connection—like wildflowers blooming quietly in a field.

This solo exhibition marked another milestone in Oh’s decades-long journey of painting nature not only as it looks, but as it feels.

2017년 7월 8일부터 27일까지, 인천 미추홀도서관 전시실에서 오효석 작가의 개인전 ‘자연의 소리’가 열렸습니다. 대한민국미술대전과 인천미술대전에서 다수의 입상을 거둔 오 작가는 청각장애 서양화 작가로, 조용하면서도 따뜻한 감성의 자연 풍경을 통해 삶과 교감해왔습니다.

그는 “나는 듣지 못하는 것이 아니라 잘 볼 수 있는 사람”이라고 말하며, 자연을 바라보는 깊은 시선으로 화폭 위에 조용한 울림을 새겨 넣습니다. 화려한 기법이나 추상이 아닌, 일상의 자연을 담담히 그려내며 들꽃처럼 소박한 언어로 관람객과 연결됩니다.

이번 전시는 그의 수십 년 예술 여정에서 또 하나의 깊은 자취를 남긴 순간이었습니다.
