Kim-Hwanjoo

Kim Hwanjoo is a Deaf artist who transcends silence with vibrant oil paintings rooted in realism and romanticism. Born in Korea and deafened by illness at two months old, she grew up surrounded by parental devotion and artistic aspiration. Over the past decades, she has developed a unique visual language centered on still life, nudes, and landscapes—particularly roses rendered in hyperrealistic stillness.

She studied Western painting at Dongguk University, earned her MFA from Daegu University, and continued her academic path at the Ilya Repin State Academic Institute of Painting in Russia. Her works evoke an emotional resonance that balances calm observation with poetic symbolism—flowers, glasses of wine, and dancers poised in timeless gesture.

Kim’s art has been widely exhibited in Korea and abroad, with eight solo exhibitions to date, including in Seoul, Daegu, and Russia. She is an active member of the Korean Fine Arts Association, Korean Association of Deaf Artists, and other art collectives. Inspired by her meeting with master painter Kim Ki-chang (Unbo), she aspires to both artistic excellence and social contribution—seeking to give hope through painting.

김환주 작가는 청각장애를 지닌 서양화가로, 정물과 누드, 풍경 등을 통해 생명과 교감을 주제로 한 감성적이고 세밀한 회화를 선보입니다. 생후 2개월 무렵 열병으로 청력을 잃은 그는 부모의 헌신 속에서 성장하며 미술로 세상과 소통하기 시작했습니다.

동국대 서양화 전공, 대구대 대학원 석사 졸업 후 러시아 레핀 국립미술대에서 수학하며 작품세계의 깊이를 더했습니다. 주로 장미, 와인잔, 여성의 몸 등을 소재로 ‘정지된 시간 속의 생명’을 그리고 있으며, 보는 이의 감각을 자극하는 따뜻한 화풍으로 호평받고 있습니다.

개인전 8회, 국내외 아트페어 및 단체전 다수 참여하였으며, 한국미술협회, 한국전업작가회, 한국장애인미술협회, 한국청각장애인미술협회 회원으로 활발히 활동 중입니다.
