Park-Seokkyu

Park Seokkyu is a Korean painter working across the realms of traditional Korean ink painting and literati art. After losing his hearing at age five, he found expression through visual language. Guided by his mother’s intuition and trained under master artist Jang Chan-woong of the Yeonjinhoe group, Park has developed a practice rooted in Namjonghwa (Southern School style) infused with contemporary interpretation.

He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Korean painting from Honam University and has been awarded multiple national honors, including two Special Selections at the Korea National Art Exhibition and the Grand Prize at the Namnong Art Exhibition.

His early works explored subtle ink landscapes and quiet rural scenes rendered with soft lines and muted tones. Later, Park began merging traditional techniques with modern aesthetics, experimenting with form, color, and composition to convey both Korean sentiment and personal resonance. Nature—homes, stones, trees, hanok—remains his core subject, as he “listens to the sound of nature through the eyes.”

박석규 작가는 5세 때 청력을 잃고 미술을 통해 세상과 소통하기 시작했습니다. 연진회에서 장찬웅 선생에게 20여 년간 문하로 배우며 남종화의 기법을 익혔고, 호남대학교 한국화과 및 대학원 과정을 수료하며 한국화의 현대적 해석을 시도해왔습니다.

그의 작품은 초기의 담채 수묵화부터 현재의 실험적인 남종화까지 두 시기로 나뉘며, 자연의 숨결과 정서를 담은 한옥, 나무, 풀 등을 소재로 조형성과 감성을 동시에 표현해냅니다. “자연의 소리를 눈으로 듣고, 마음의 고막으로 울린다”는 표현처럼, 그의 그림은 정적인 풍경 속에서도 생생한 감각을 불러일으킵니다.

대한민국미술대전 특선 2회, 전라남도미술대전 한국화·문인화 부문 대상, 남농미술대전 종합대상 등을 수상하였으며, 현재 다양한 문인화 및 한국화 관련 단체에서 활발히 활동 중입니다.
