Jeon-Dongmin

Jeon Dongmin is a Korean painter who redefines the boundaries of traditional ink painting through the language of contemporary cityscapes. A graduate of Chosun University’s College of Fine Arts, he holds a master’s degree in Korean painting and has participated as a resident artist at the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture’s Jamsil Creative Studio.

His practice centers on urban nightscapes seen from elevated perspectives—spaces where darkness and artificial light reveal emotional thresholds. To him, the city at night is not just a subject of visual beauty, but a metaphor for suffering, hope, and the invisible energy of human life. The darkness represents isolation, while the glow of buildings becomes a symbol of resilience and connection.

In recent works, Jeon has incorporated materials such as phosphorescent pigment and fluorescent paint to enhance the dynamic interplay between light and shadow. The result is a layered visual field where foreground and background blend, echoing the blurry borders between despair and joy, life and death.

전동민 작가는 조선대학교에서 한국화를 전공하고 동 대학원에서 석사 학위를 받은 후, 서울문화재단 잠실창작스튜디오 10기 및 11기 입주작가로 활동하며 도시의 야경을 중심으로 한 작품세계를 확장해왔습니다.

그의 야경은 단순한 풍경이 아니라 감정의 층위와 삶의 경계를 담은 내면의 지형도입니다. 불빛은 도시 속 생명의 상징이며, 어둠은 고독과 방황의 은유입니다. 최근 작업에서는 형광 물감과 축광 도료를 활용해 화면의 생동감을 극대화하고, 시간과 감정의 흐름을 재현합니다.

<빛 그리고 희망>, <안녕? SEOUL! 야경이야기> 등 개인전을 비롯하여 다수의 기획전 및 그룹전에 참여하였으며, 대한민국 인재부문 대통령상, 조선대학교 공로상 등을 수상한 바 있습니다.
