Heo-Namseong

Heo Namseong is a Korean painter whose artistic journey has been shaped by both silence and perseverance. Living with profound hearing and speech disabilities, he communicates through his brush—translating quiet emotion, tender relationships, and life’s depth into works spanning portraiture, abstract, and landscape painting.

Though he earned recognition through multiple national art competitions, Heo had never dreamed of holding a solo exhibition. That changed in 2015, when a spontaneous visit to Busan with his wife, a deaf dancer, led to an impromptu conversation with the director of Banana Long Gallery. Moved by the venue's charm—and its impending closure—Heo held his first solo exhibition there, aptly titled “Hope.”

His paintings reflect his life: warm-faced figures, gentle nature, abstract love, and meditative explorations of being. He wishes for his work to inspire others who live in silence, proving that expression always finds a way.

허남성 작가는 청각·언어장애를 지닌 화가로, 조용하지만 깊은 내면세계를 담은 그림으로 관람객과 소통하고 있습니다. 2015년, 부산 바나나롱갤러리에서 열린 생애 첫 개인전 ‘희망’을 통해 “듣지 못하고 말하지 못해도 예술로 마음을 전할 수 있다”는 메시지를 담담하게 전했습니다.

그의 작품에는 따뜻한 인물화, 편안한 풍경화, 사랑을 그린 추상화, 존재를 탐색하는 실험적인 표현까지 다양한 형식이 공존하며, 특히 장애를 딛고 지속된 창작의 진정성이 고스란히 묻어납니다. 사기를 겪고 그림을 포기할 뻔했던 아픈 과거도 있었지만, 끝내 붓을 놓지 않은 그는 오늘도 누군가에게 용기를 건네는 그림을 그리고 있습니다.
