Kim-Yoonhwan

Kim Yoonhwan is a Korean painter whose work reinterprets the traditional symbolism of the palace ("궁") and the Ilwol Obongdo—the sun, moon, and five peaks—into a vibrant, contemplative contemporary language.

Working with a central theme of "Gung: Awakened by Color," Kim explores the spiritual depth, philosophical resonance, and quiet brilliance found in the palace, which he regards as both a place of artistic origin and emotional refuge.

Inspired by childhood memories and a personal connection to loss, Kim reimagines the palace not only as a cultural monument, but as a living, breathing space where color becomes light, and silence becomes a language.

He reconstructs the Ilwol Obongdo (traditional Korean folding screen) through abstract visual metaphors—rendering the sun and moon through color, and the mountains through refined lines. Through this, he offers viewers a modern vision of inner stability in a restless world.

Kim graduated from the Department of Decorative Design at Hongik University and has received multiple national awards, including Excellence at the Korea Painting Awards and four Special Selections at the Korea Watercolor Competition. He is currently an active member of the Korean Fine Arts Association and several other contemporary art groups.

어좌 뒤의 일월오봉도를 기반으로, 해와 달은 색으로, 나머지 구성은 선으로 구현하여 감각과 철학을 동시에 자극합니다.

김 작가에게 궁은 단순한 공간이 아닌, 작가로서의 꿈이 시작된 심상의 고향이며, 경쟁사회 속에서 마음의 쉼터 역할을 해온 장소입니다.
특히, 생전 친구의 격려를 떠올리며 모든 작업과 전시를 경건한 마음으로 임하는 작가의 태도는 그의 작업에 더욱 깊은 감동을 더합니다.

서울 출생으로 홍익대학교 도안과를 졸업하였으며, 개인전 2회를 비롯해 다수의 단체전과 공모전에 참여하였고,
대한민국 회화대전 우수상, 대한민국 수채화대전 특선 4회 등 여러 수상 경력을 보유하고 있습니다.
현재 한국미술협회, 한국현대미술작가연합회, 태평양미술협회 등에서 활발히 활동하고 있습니다.
