Oh-Hyoseok

Oh Hyoseok is an artist based in Incheon who uses painting as a medium for communication beyond spoken language. Living with hearing loss, he focuses on nature as a bridge between himself and the outside world. Since his first solo exhibition at Gallery Jin in 2008, he has held multiple exhibitions, including two solo shows in 2009 at Mishima Pasadena Museum in Japan and Gallery Jin again. He has also participated in numerous invited exhibitions such as the Incheon Art Fair (2008–2009), the opening exhibitions of DIO Art Center and Dure Art Space, and the “100 Poets & Artists” exhibition at Sejong Center.

Rather than merely depicting nature, Oh Hyoseok aims to portray its vitality and grandeur. His works reveal his deep contemplation of the cyclical dynamics of natural elements—light, air, time, and terrain. Despite consciously limiting flamboyant techniques or bright color play, his works offer a quiet but profound resonance with viewers, reflecting a sincere commitment to natural order and emotional depth.

오효석 작가는 청각장애로 인해 언어적 소통이 어려운 상황 속에서 그림을 통해 세상과의 소통을 시도하는 작가입니다. 그는 자연을 오랜 시간 관찰하고 그 생명성과 질서를 작품에 투영합니다. 2008년 갤러리 진에서의 첫 개인전을 시작으로 2009년에는 일본 미시마파사디나 미술관과 인천 갤러리 진에서 두 차례 개인전을 열었고, 인천아트페어, 두레아트스페이스 개관전, 세종문화회관 등에서 다수의 기획전에 참여했습니다.

그의 그림은 단순한 자연의 재현을 넘어, 인간과 자연의 관계, 빛과 대기, 시간과 공간의 흐름 속에 있는 생명력을 드러냅니다. 화려한 색채나 기교를 절제하면서도, 오효석 작가만의 표현 방식은 오히려 더욱 깊은 울림을 전달합니다. 대한민국미술대전, 인천미술대전 등에서 다수의 수상을 통해 그의 작품성과 진정성을 인정받고 있습니다.
