Shin-Sunyoung

Shin Sunyoung is a mixed-media artist based in South Korea who uses her work as a window to communicate with the world. Born with a hearing disability at the age of three due to illness, Shin found her voice in art. Her pieces often feature discarded materials such as traditional Korean paper (hanji), ropes, and wood, reflecting themes of resilience, nature, and inner dialogue. Shin’s work is not just a visual experience but a metaphorical opening—a "window of hope"—through which viewers are invited to connect.

She majored in Western painting at Jeonju University and completed graduate studies at the same institution. Over the past decade, she has held four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows, including the Gwangju Able Art Fair (2023), Korean Deaf Artists Exchange in Jeju (2024), and exhibitions with the Korean Art Vision 25 Women Artists. Currently, she is an active member of the Gyeonggi International Creative Art Association and the Uijeongbu Catholic Art Association.

신선영 작가는 전주대학교 미술학과와 일반대학원을 졸업하고, 현재는 한지와 밧줄, 나무 등 다양한 재료를 활용한 혼합매체 작품 활동을 하고 있습니다. 그림은 그녀에게 세상과 연결되는 ‘창’과도 같은 존재이며, 오랜 시간 듣지 못하고 말하기 어려웠던 경험을 바탕으로 사람과 사람 간의 소통, 그리고 희망과 사랑의 메시지를 담고자 노력해왔습니다.

그녀는 “사람마다 다른 색으로 소통한다”는 신념을 작품 <나뭇잎들>에 담았고, 10년 전 인공와우 수술 이후 구어도 배우며 더 많은 사람들과 소통하려는 의지를 이어가고 있습니다. 하느님의 위로와 격려를 삶의 중심에 두고 있는 신 작가는 “괜찮다, 수고했다”는 말을 기억하며, 앞으로도 사랑을 전하는 작가로 살아가고자 합니다.
